The Volckening Collection of American Quilts

The Volckening Collection is a private collection of 19th, 20th and 21st century American quilts. Located in Portland, Oregon, the collection contains over 200 objects dating from the early 19th century to early 21st century. The diverse collection is noteworthy for its focus on the pattern known as Rocky Mountain Road, Crown of Thorns and New York Beauty. Other collection highlights include an 1850‘s Album from West Virginia, three very early 19th century quilts, a pair of Amish quilts from the Esprit Collection, and a Gee’s Bend quilt by Lucy Mingo. Works from the collection have been exhibited from New York to Tokyo, and appeared in publications worldwide.


In 2011, Bill published a catalog for “Beauty Secrets: 150 Years of History in One Quilt Pattern” his premier exhibit at the Benton County Museum in Philomath, Oregon.
